Location: Black Sands Beach near San Francisco, California
This is quite a nice, large beach with, you guessed it, BLACK sand. This beach has had a long history of nude use but never by large crowds. At times it is closed due to erosion of the path down to the water. The beach may also be called Bonita Beach.
Leave San Francisco north on 101 and cross the Golden Gate Bridge. Right after the vista point on your right, exit at Alexander Ave. Almost immediately take a left so you can double back through a short tunnel to the other side of 101. (If you miss this turn there is another left you can take which goes through a long tunnel under the highway but sends you to different set of roads; best not to go this way unless you have a map of the Marin headlands roads). If you have gone the right way, on the other side of the highway you come up the hill onto Conzelman (don't go back onto highway 101, obviously). At the top is a small parking area. Keep going past the Kirby Beach trail, driving on Conzelman, a winding sceneic drive overlooking Golden Gate bridge. After driving 2-3 miles you'll get to a popular high lookout point and shortly thereafter the road becomes narrow and one-way, though still paved and quite driveable. Keep your speed down as you wind your way downhill. As the road levels out you will see a parking lot on the left with a public toilet. The trail down to the beach starts at the lot. If the lot is full you can park on the right side of the road past the parking lot.
The trail down is a very easy footpath as it has been terraced. It takes about 10 minutes to get down.
